Auslan is short for Australian Sign Language.

Grades foundation to six at Warburton Primary School participate in Auslan classes once per week for 30 minutes. Students learn about deaf culture and basic sign language. This includes introducing themselves and interacting with the deaf community.

Some topics covered in Auslan include:

  • Family

  • Counting

  • Alphabet

  • Shapes

  • Animals

  • Classroom themes

Auslan is provided to all students. It is embraced by the school community and is the school’s LOTE subject. As many teachers and students participate in Auslan classes, communication occurs freely.
